We are indebted to Geeta Narayan, Project Officer for Humanitarian Policy in the Office of Emergency Programmes, UNICEF New York, for her hard work as guest editor and to UNICEF for their financial support of this FMR\u2019s feature section on Displaced children and adolescents: challenges and opportunities<\/strong>. We\u2019re delighted to include an introductory piece by Nils Kastberg, Director of UNICEF\u2019s Office of Emergency Programmes, and a specially commissioned interview with General Rom\u00e9o Dallaire, the Canadian International Development Agency\u2019s Special Advisor on War-affected Children.<\/p>\n

For those of us far from day-to-day contact with those directly affected by conflict and displacement, General Dallaire\u2019s passionate words are a reminder to retain our sense of outrage: “I don\u2019t see how we can make treaties on weapons and on prevention of war and we can create an international court yet not move in a cultural sense to develop repugnance about children as combatants.”<\/p>\n

The feature theme of issue 16 (to be published January 2003) will be African displacement: roots, resources and resolution<\/strong>. Issue 17, to be published in May 2003 in association with the Brookings-SAIS Project on Internal Displacement, will focus on \u2018when displacement ends\u2019<\/strong>. If you are interested in writing on either of these subjects, please contact us as soon as possible at fmr@qeh.ox.ac.uk.<\/p>\n

Other themes under consideration for 2003 <\/strong>include \u2018reproductive health for refugees\/IDPs\u2019, \u2018asylum\u2019 and \u2018logistics of assistance\u2019. Again, if you are interested in writing on any of these subjects, please contact us. We can then let you know what we decide \u2013 and obviously if we get a lot of interest in certain themes, that will help our decision making! And please remember that we keep space in each issue for \u2018non-theme\u2019 articles on any other subject relating to forced migration.<\/p>\n
